حنان عشراوي

مقدسية ولدت عام 1946 في مدينة نابلس. إعلامية لامعة، تم تعيينها متحدثة رسمية في مفاوضات مؤتمر مدريد للسلام عام 1996، ثم انتخبت عضواً في المجلس التشريعي الفلسطيني، عن مدينة القدس. وهي ناشطة في مجال حقوق الإنسان. شغلت سابقاً منصب وزيرة التعليم العالي، وهي مؤسسة “مفتاح”؛ المبادرة الفلسطينية لتعميق الحوار العالمي والديمقراطية، وأمينتها العامة، وتترأسها منذ العام 1998.
عملت في عدد من المؤسسات، بما فيها الاتحاد العام للمرأة الفلسطينية/ لبنان (1967-1972)، ومركز المعلومات التابع لمنظمة التحرير الفلسطينية (1968-1970).
حصلت على درجة البكالوريوس في الأدب الإنجليزي، من الجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت، وعلى درجة الدكتوراة في أدب القرون الوسطى، من جامعة فرجينيا عام 1971، بعد أن منعتها اسرائيل من العودة إلى الضفة الغربية منذ عام 1967 وحتى عام 1973.
بعد عودتها، عملت أستاذة للأدب الإنجليزي/ جامعة بيرزيت (1974- 1995)، ثم شغلت منصب عميد كلية الآداب (1986-1990).

Hanan Ashrawi
Hanan Ashrawi is a Jerusalem citizen Born in 1946 in Nablus. She was appointed as official spokesperson for the Palestinian Delegation at the Peace Conference in Madrid. In 1996. She is now an elected member of the Palestinian Legislative Council for the Jerusalem district and was appointed Minister for Higher Education.. She is considered as a human rights activist and the founder and Secretary General of Miftah – the Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy, which she has headed since 1998 . Ashrawi has worked in a number of capacities including for the General Union of Palestinian Woman in Lebanon (1967-72) and in the Information Office of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (1968-70). She completed her BA in English literature at the American University in Beirut and her PhD in Medieval Literature at the University of Virginia in 1971, after she was prevented from returning to the West Bank by Israel from 1967 to 1973. Upon her return to the West Bank, she became a professor of English Literature at Birzeit University (1974-95), and became Dean of the Faculty of Arts (1986-90).
