Rayhan Sultana Toma (Bangladesh)

Rayhan Sultana Toma, working in an international organization, Bangladesh.
One afternoon in 2011, I was returning from work. As I was crossing Panthapath, A man on a motorbike on the road
asked me to move to give him space to pass. However, the road was filled with filthy water. He then suddenly started hurling abuse towards me. I was insulted and so I reacted. I tried to stop him from continuing on.
To my utter surprise he head-butted me in the face with his helmet. I was hurt, insulted and surprised! I was adamant that I wouldn’t let him get away and so I held onto the back of his bike. His friends then joined in and started beating me indiscriminately on the road. Luckily, one of my ex colleagues who happened to be passing by came to
my rescue.
Later, I filed a case with police for physical assault and the perpetrator was caught. He begged for mercy when I went
to identify him at the Detective Branch office. However, I couldn’t care less about him or his pleas.
