Ms Awa Ba is the Country Officer and head of the Senegal Country Office of the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA). Prior to that, Ms Ba worked with the foundation TrustAfrica, managing the Religion and Pluralism in Africa Program. She also worked as the Founding Editor of the French Edition of Pambazuka News (Produced by Fahamu- Networks for Social Justice), Lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Journanlist-Reporter at Sud Quotidien, an independent Senegalese daily newspaper.

Ms Awa hold a Diplome d’Etudes Approfondies (DEA) in Anthropology from the University Cheikh Ama Diop inDakar,Senegaland a Master of Arts degree in Sociology from the University Gaston Berger inSaint-Louis,Senegal. She equally has a Post-graduate Degree in Journalism from the Institut Superieus des Sciences del’Information et de la Communication (ISSIC) inDakar,Senegal.

Her research areas include migration, religion, gener, media and social movements inSenegal.

Ms Awa Ba is a PhD Candidate in Social Anthropology at Uppsala University (Sweden).
