Jody Williams is an American politician and educator. She is very active and committed to participate in international Campaign to Ban Landmines, the International Campaign to Ban Landmines Jody responsible person, she promotes the “Ottawa Treaty”, therefore she won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997.
After graduation, she became a teacher. In addition, Jody spent about 11 years in the backward countries such as El Salvador in Central America, working for the local poor and oppressed mass to fight for human rights.
Jody later became International Campaign to Ban Landmines (International to campaign ban landmines, ICBL) founder and chairwomen. International Campaign to Ban Landmines was established in 1992, which aims to prevent the production, use and trade of land mines. In addition, the organization was committed to combating illegal land mines repository.
Until the 1990s, land mines such made many innocent casualties, it also gives rise to serious medical and humanitarian crisis. Land mines in conflict or war abuse, cause of disability and death of large numbers of civilians, for example in the Korean War and the Vietnam War many civilians were injured, in serious cases, require amputation or permanent disability, cause long-term physical and psychological effects on the victim.
Jody committed to the fight against landmines since 1992, she gathered 85 countries ,1300 NGO organizations. Meanwhile, France, Italy and other countries announced to ban the export ban of land mines. In 1997, the “Ottawa Treaty ” was established, a number of EU countries, the Americas (the United States is not in the Convention) and developing countries are committed to not use, development, production, acquisition, retention or transfer of land mines. The international Campaign to Ban Landmines plays supervisory role, to monitor countries and regularly publish reports from time to time. So far, Jody still endeavors to maintain international peace.
