Uppekha Jain and Pankuhuri Awasthi (India)

We sing against the world

Uppekha Jain and Pankuhuri Awasthi were two brave Indian ladies who speak out the raping culture in India. Since the sexual crimes to female in India are really serious, every woman is scared to walk along in the street. These two ladies saw this terrible fact, so they decided to use their expertise of rap skill to let the world awear of the issue. The rap is criticizing Indian men’s twisted mindset and encouraging people to stand against it. Later, they put their video “Rap against rape” on YouTube and the world heard their voice.

BomBaebs is a famous YouTube channel which targets to the world’s youth. They hope the YouTube channel could provide intelligent and engaging content. They believe that every citizen has responsibility to give back society and help to improve it. As a rap artist, they also have their responsibilities to use their art work to do something.

What their video has done is bring immediate notice to various problems that have been looming over India society for quite a while and made it acceptable for people to speak about it openly. Their rap is rising discussion, debatable topics and reflection of the gender equality in the society. Using rap and music, people are more comfortable to talk about the women’s problems. They also hope that their rap could inspire next group to express themselves openly and lead to a positive change.

There are many powerful lyrics in the rap, for example the line “Stop that tweet and actually get up on your feet.” This simple lyric totally reflects the ridiculous phenomenon in the current socity that people would rather use social medias to talk about what they ate and bought but not willing to speak up in the real world. They criticized this kind of silly action and said that people should take some real time action. “We did and we hope others will as well!”
